Spring Creek Water Resource Monitoring Project (WRMP)
Water Resources Monitoring Project (WRMP)

In order to fulfill the goal: Measure Watershed Quality and Set Goals for Improvement, the Spring Creek Watershed Association initiated the Water Resources Monitoring Project (WRMP) in January 1998. The project was designed by the Water Resources Monitoring Committee to establish baseline data to be used for the long-term protection of Spring Creek and its tributaries. In 1999, baseline data collection began with base-flow monitoring and soon expanded to include ground-water and storm-water monitoring.

There are several volunteer and internship opportunities available including:

  • Collection of field data
  • Data entry Database management
  • Assistance with public forums

For more information about WRMP or if you would like to volunteer for the Water Resources Monitoring Project, please contact Nick Schipanski at (814) 237-0400

SPRING CREEK WATERSHED's MS4 PARTNERS
"The acronym 'MS4' is short for a "Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System". From a practical perspective, it implies that a municipality, or municipality-like entity, has a stormwater permit and is required by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PaDEP) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) to develop and implement a stormwater management program to reduce the contamination of stormwater runoff and prohibit illicit discharges..." - ms4partners.org.

When It Rains, It Drains
What is Storm Water? Stormwater is water from precipitation that flows across the ground and pavement when it rains or when snow and ice melt. The water seeps into the ground or drains into what we call storm sewers. These are the drains you see at street corners or at low points on the sides of streets. Collectively, the draining water is called stormwater runoff.
But what happens when "good rain goes wrong"? Click here to read how this can affect your money, safety, health, and environment.
