GIS / Field Technician

Salary Range: $51,349 to $56,484 DOE
College Township is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented GIS / Field Technician to support the Township’s engineering and infrastructure management efforts. This role is ideal for early-career GIS professionals eager to gain hands-on field and technical experience while contributing to meaningful public service and community development.
As a GIS / Field Technician, you will support mapping, inspection, field data collection, and project documentation for Township facilities and infrastructure. You will also serve as a key resource to the Township Engineer by assisting with permits, reports, mapping, and survey-related field duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize ESRI software to prepare and update GIS mapping for Township facilities and infrastructure.
- Use handheld GPS data collectors to update inventories of stormwater facilities, street signs, street trees, and water system features.
- Assist with the preparation of permits, reports, maps, and bid documents for roadway and stormwater projects.
- Perform inspections of roadway, stormwater, and utility installations and prepare daily inspection reports.
- Inspect existing stormwater management facilities and prepare condition reports.
- Communicate with contractors regarding work standards, progress, and quality of completed work.
- Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to prepare documentation and reports.
- Assist with various field duties, including surveying and field measurements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in GIS database maintenance, mapping, or a related field.
- Minimum of one (1) year of GIS-related experience preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of ESRI software.
- Knowledge of GPS handheld data collection, downloading, and post-processing.
- Understanding of general infrastructure construction.
- Ability to plan daily activities, work independently, and manage time effectively.
- Strong ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and the public.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
Certifications
- A valid Pennsylvania driver’s license required.
