Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA)

Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA)

The Centre Area Transportation Authority consists of five members, one member from each of the five participating municipalities (Borough of State College plus the Townships of College, Ferguson, Harris and Patton). Individual terms are five years. CATA owns buses and operates CENTRE LINE, a fixed-route bus service throughout the Centre Region and by contract to Bellefonte Borough.

CATA also operates CENTRE RIDE, the area’s specialized paratransit service for elderly and disabled individuals.

CATA is responsible for transit policy determination, liaison to municipal governing bodies, preparation of operating budgets, approval of routes/scheduling, adoption of fares and supervision of staff and operations.

An appointed Manager acts on behalf of the municipal members of the Authority for administration and operations. Meetings are normally held once a month. The College Township member represents the interests of College Township at these meetings and acts as liaison with Council. CATA operates autonomously from the Township Council; however, it does require subsidy from the Township in order to continue operations.

CATA can be reached on (814) 238-2282 and by email at ‘cata@catabus.com’, or by regular mail at 2081 West Whitehall Road, State College, PA 16801.

The Centre Area Transportation Authority meets every fourth Monday at 4:00 p.m. in the State College Borough Council Chambers, unless otherwise advertised. The College Township Representative to CATA is Mr. Joseph Davidson.
