Construction of Phase 2 of the Pike Street Traffic Calming and Accessibility Project in the Village of Lemont will begin on Monday, May 23rd. Travelers are being alerted that a one-way traffic pattern, similar to the pattern utilized during Phase 1 activities last year, will once again be in effect during construction.
One-way traffic on Pike Street will be maintained in a general northeast direction toward East College Avenue between Elmwood and Dale Streets (see attached map). Construction activities will occur on one side of the Pike Street, while traffic is maintained on the opposite lane. Every effort will be made to ensure that access to the businesses located on Pike Street remains open throughout the project. This new traffic pattern will remain in effect throughout construction, which is expected to finish by mid-October.
The proposed improvements in Phase 2 include curbing, stormwater upgrades, delineated parallel parking, curb ramps, and full sidewalk along both sides of Pike Street from the intersection with Elmwood Street to Dale Street. Phase 1 of the project, completed in 2021, included waterline and gas line relocation work in anticipation of this year’s construction activities.
Bowman Excavating, Paving, and Concrete of Bellefonte, PA is the contractor on this $1,517,160 project. All work is weather and schedule dependent. College Township reminds the traveling public to use caution in work zones, obey posted speed limits and to follow official detour signs.
